Field guide
Logging a hunt
Every sit becomes a record: who hunted, where, what they saw, and what came off the place. Whether one person logs for the whole camp or each hunter has their own login and checks themselves in, the steps are the same.
Before the season
- Open the app and tap the property. Let it finish loading while you still have signal.
- Make sure every hunter is in the list. Open Wildlife›Hunts and look at the Hunter dropdown. People who hunted in the last year, or were added recently, are grouped under Recent; everyone else is below.
- Anyone missing: pick + Add new person… at the bottom of that dropdown, or go to People. Tap + Add person, enter their name, and Add person.
Check in — every sit
Before the hunter walks out. It takes about ten seconds.
- Open Wildlife›Hunts.
- Fill in the three fields at the top: Hunter (their name from the dropdown), Tract (which part of the property), and Stand. Only if someone is guiding them, tap + Add guide and pick the guide.
- Tap Check in. Their name appears in the list below with the time.
Check out — every sit
When they're back at the truck. This is where observations get recorded, so ask what they saw before you tap anything.
- Open Wildlife›Hunts and find their name in the list.
- Tap Check out.
- The app opens an observation form with the stand already filled in. Enter what they saw and tap Log observation.
For deer it asks for a count of each: Racked bucks, Spikes, Does, Fawns, Unknown. Best guesses are fine. Anything worth remembering — a good buck, direction of travel — goes in Comments.
Saw nothing? Tap Nothing seen. That sit counts too — a stand that produces nothing in fog and 75 degrees is worth knowing about — and the comments box is the place for the conditions.
If they took a deer
Log the harvest first, then check them out as normal.
- Open Wildlife›Harvests.
- Fill in Harvest date, Tract, Stand, Hunter, Species, and Sex.
- Set Weapon. Then add whatever details you can get — antler points, live and dressed weight if there's a scale, estimated age.
- Tap Log harvest.
If they missed, or hit and couldn't find it
Instead of Check out, tap Log missed/wounded shot next to their name.
- Choose the Outcome — Missed or Shot, not recovered.
- Set Species, and Sex for deer.
- Put the tracking story in Tracking notes: where it was hit, which way it ran, how far you followed blood.
- Tap Log & check out. That checks them out and records the shot in one step.
Going back to look again in daylight? Check them in again for that.
When there's no signal
All of this works with no bars. Everything you enter saves on the phone and uploads itself when you're back in range — don't re-enter anything because it "didn't go through." It did. Before you leave the property, open the app once more where you have signal and give it a minute. If every hunter shows Checked out under Hunts, the trip is fully recorded.
